Folding House

The folding house is about having a choice - choice of changing your living space according to your evolving needs and choice to be with others without compromising intimacy. Folding house is based on a concept of a movable roof that retracts and flexes. Outdoor spaces can be transformed into additional rooms. The roof becomes a responsive solar-shading and blind system. Rooms are distributed along a fixed corridor that functions as main circulation and as distribution of the infrastructure.

The building skin biomimetics the physiology of human skin; in a thin layer it integrates multiple systems, filters the environment, regulates temperature and humidity, is non-toxic and permeable when required. Borders of the house are protected by a baleen-like fence that provides privacy, erosion and fire control. The fence directs rainwater into underground reservoirs that work in symbiosis with the house’s chore, a green tower for interior air cooling, greywater treatment and bacterial energy production.
